If you are interested in a PhD project being offered you should initially make contact with the listed supervisor to discuss what the project might entail and how your strengths and interests can be accommodated. Then, if the supervisor agrees to support your candidature, and you would like to apply for a scholarship you must submit a cover letter of no more than two pages stating which project you are interested in applying for, and also addressing the following selection criteria:

Evidence of suitable qualifications and an interest in research and development.
Demonstrated interest in conservation and/or agricultural production.
Demonstrated ability to communicate in oral and written form at a variety of levels.

You should include a curriculum vitae plus contact details of 3 referees and the most up-to-date academic record available at the time of applying (and details of when your results will become available if you have not yet graduated).

Don't forget to include your contact details.

We also require that candidates apply for university and APA scholarships, which will both be administered by the chosen university. The listed supervisor for your project will be able to assist you in writing your application. To aid your application, the CRC will provide you with a letter of support indicating our willingness to provide a top-up scholarship should you receive a university or APA scholarship.

Please contact the Program Coordinator for the Education Program when your application is complete and you require this letter.

Should you win one of our scholarships (worth approx. $19,000), the CRC will guarantee to top the scholarship up to $25,000 tax-free. If you do not win a university or APA scholarship, the CRC may fully fund your scholarship. However, these places are limited and competition for them is strong.

Applications Requirements

Prospective students must:

qualify for enrolment in a PhD program at the relevant university

be available to start their studies by the beginning of the university year
agree to undertake a minimum of 80 days of skills training during the tenure of their scholarship to be eligible for the full four years of scholarship support.

Scholarships are only available to Australian or New Zealand citizens and permanent residents of Australia. Citizens of other countries are encouraged to discuss study opportunities with relevant supervisors. However the IA CRC will not be able to support international fees at Australian Universities. Foreign students (excluding New Zealanders) must find an alternative means of meeting these fees.
